![]() ![]() Lots of bees and pollinators in the wildflower meadows. Falling while taking selfies is one of the most common of serious accidents up here.Īlso its good to use insect repellent and watch for yellow jackets near standing water and any bushes that have sugary exudations on the leaves. Its just too easy to loose footing and fall a long way down. Hot with exertion in the sun and cold near water/snow and particularly if there is also wind blowing across the water or snow.īe very careful and watch the girls if there is snow on the trail. Hiking in early July requires layers of clothing because it can be very hot or nearly frigid.even rainy/low foggy all in one day. The main danger is getting dehydrated, so carry water and sip on it.and an adult should carry and know how to use bear spray. You can also watch ad-free, narrated videos of the trails on this website and blog. Its waterproof and each trail is described briefly and color coded as to steepness along it. I recommend the trail map sold by Hike 734. And since you are from Florida, you will not be acclimated to the elevation up here and will naturally get tired sooner and will feel shortness of breath. Yes Iceberg lake and most of the higher elevation trails will still have snow, mud and sometimes melt-water early in July.particularly in areas of tree cover or shade cover from mountain shadows.īecause of the mountainous nature of Glacier, there is more hiking up and down sections of steep trails. Before doing this hike, check that the seasonal bridges are installed, or talk to a ranger and make sure it's doable for you and your kids. It's possible that you'd still have time in the day to do something else - attend a ranger talk or sit and watch for wildlife or enjoy a scenic drive (if you're not lodging in Many Glacier). The Iceberg Lake hike is a little easier than other 10 mile hikes around the park. If you're looking for smaller activities for a day in Many Glacier - short hike to Apikuni Falls, take a boat tour or rent boats in Swiftcurrent Lake, short walk to Fishercap Lake to look for moose, see if you can find Wilbur Falls, watch for wildlife (check for rangers with spotting scopes in the Swiftcurrent Parking lot, or people on the back porch at Many Glacier with binoculars on the hillside), walk around Swiftcurrent Lake, walk around Many Glacier Hotel and read the historical information. Or maybe your kids have other interests that you're trying to satisfy. Some people just want to check things off on their lists. Some people don't mind hopping around from site to site as much as I do. It keeps you away from crowded parking lots, and puts you right in the middle of the park, giving you time to observe as you travel at a slower pace.īut, it depends on your travel style, and your kids. My personal opinion is that a full day hike in Glacier is 100% worth it if you have the interest and fitness. ![]()
